The Name Zodiac Means Quality and Caring
Over the past 31 years, Zodiac Swim School has earned the confidence of thousands of families in building swimmers’ skills, self-confidence and love of the water. The name Zodiac not only stands for quality and caring in aquatics, but also in the camping field. Since 1998 (with Summer 2010 representing our camp's 13th anniversary!), Directors Ellen and Rick Howard and Danny Goodman have taken Zodiac's winning formula in the swimming, recreation and camp contexts to make Zodiac Swim & Specialty Camp the logical destination and best alternative for your child's summer experience. Zodiac Swim & Specialty Camp has a unique, challenging and fun premise that is simple and obvious in its appeal to kids and parents. We want to provide our 2.5 to 15.5 year old campers with a fun, exciting, memorable, age-appropriate, unparalleled summer camp experience. We offer a uniquely fun, challenging, safe and enjoyable environment in which we strive not only to expose the camper to an amazing blend of experiences and to develop skills, but also to build each child's self-esteem, confidence and trust. Each camper is dealt with as an individual with unique needs and goals.
The Experienced Hands-On Directing Team
RICK HOWARD L.L.B.
Rick practiced business law for over 10 years, eventually assuming his current position as Director and Owner of Zodiac Swim & Specialty Camp, Zodiac Swim School and Camp Tamarack. Rick’s organizational and business skills, sense of humour and natural ability and effectiveness in dealing with children, staff and parents at camp and the swim school have also proven successful in Rick’s other experiences as a parent, coach and teacher. Rick is also a long-time volunteer and the past President of the Ontario Camps Association.
ELLEN HOWARD B.P.H.E., B.Ed.
In addition to her 31 years as Director and Owner of Zodiac Swim & Specialty Camp, Zodiac Swim School and now Camp Tamarack, Ellen has brought her enthusiasm, creativity, leadership and love of children (including 3 of her own) to a wide variety of other roles, including being a physical and health education teacher, swim program coordinator, program director and camp director. Ellen is also a member of the Standards Committee of the Ontario Camps Association.
DANNY GOODMAN B.A., B.Ed.
In addition to his 7 years as a Director (and previously Head Counsellor) at Zodiac Swim & Specialty Camp and past prior extensive overnight camp experience, Danny is a highly regarded teacher in York Region. Danny’s people and parenting skills, fun personality and empathy make him extremely effective and appreciated in his dealing with campers, parents and staff.

We are delighted with our Toronto French School campsite (and related off-site facilities)! Toronto French School’s central and convenient location, wonderful indoor and outdoor facilities and supportive administrative and caretaking team add up to a terrific camp facility! Our campers and staff can be (and are) indoors and/or outdoors as the weather dictates or program requires and we appreciate the very positive feedback about our terrific campsite!
The Ultimate Camp Experience
Zodiac Swim & Specialty Camp's unique and terrific blend of camp activities and opportunities, both in the camper's chosen specialty area as well as in the swimming, specialty and other camp programs (and in a full range of age-appropriate camp programs in the Kid-Vantage Program for our 2.5 to 6.5 year old campers), is only enhanced by the special “camp experience”. Each camper spends the full camp day with the same group of campers, each group being supervised by caring and committed counsellors. It is this important mix of quality programming, together with camp friendships, mentors and memories that make Zodiac Swim & Specialty Camp the ultimate camp experience.
